Double Duty at Daytona Turns Out Double Heartbreak for Dale Earnhardt Jr

 
As we headed to Daytona for the Coke Zero 400 Saturday night, Dale Earnhardt Jr fans hoped and prayed that it would bring him the break he needed and deserved. After a solid 13th finish at New Hampshire, there was hope on the horizon. His good luck started Friday night where he started in seventh position in the No. 5 Fastenal Chevrolet. It looked to promising for Jr and he actually showed possibility of a top three finish until a mishap on pit road. Jr left his pit stall at the same time Scott Wimmer was pulling into his and they had a little bump, causing Earnhardt Jr to go back into the pits and restart in the 31st position. In the process of working his way to the front, Earnhardt Jr got involved in a multi-car accident and was hit by the No. 66 of Steven Wallace. Earnhardt Jr ended up in the garage with a disappointing 40th finish. Qualifiers for Saturday were rained out causing Dale Earnhardt Jr to start in the 19th position, due to points.
